Youth education by Syndesmos’ Greek part

A very interesting program was organized by Syndesmos’ Greek part in Veroia (West Greek Macedonia) in 6-8 October 2000. About 90 young people, working in the catichisis of their movements, participated in this program, which consisted of 4 working groups. In this program were also young people from the Holy Diocese of Demetrias.

The first working group dealed with Parallel Activities, next to the Catichisis. In the second the participants were educated in organizing a Youth exchange by using the program “Youth” of the E. U. In the third, participants exchanged ideas how to create an orthodox youth magazine, a radio broadcast, a Web page and a youth campaign. Finally, in the fourth group participants discussed about pedagogical problems in the catichisis, such as the naughty child, the relationship between the trainers and the parents, parish’ problems etc.

The program was hosted by the Metropolis of Veroia and was conducted by members of the Board of Greek Syndesmos. Information was also given about 5 Syndesmos’ programs (Jordan, Trikeri, Mt. Athos, Suprazl and Moscow), in which members from Greek movements participated.

Syndesmos’ Greek part was funded in 1996. Its purposes are to contribute to communication between Syndesmos’ Greek movements and help Syndesmos to organize programs in Greece. Next year Syndesmos’ Greek part will organize at least three programs, two locals and one international. First a meeting of all those who edit ecclesiastical youth magazines (17-18 February 2001) and, second, an educational program for those who work as leaders and in charge of camping groups (28-29 April 2001). In Agia, near Volos, an international ecological program is going to take place between 2 and 10 August 2001, in a nunnery only for girls! For further details see next Syndesmos’ News issue!
