ORTHODOX WORSHIPChurches of Mount PelionEvery village, every valley,every slope of Ñelion is crowned by its church. Very beautiful basilicas, with outer narthexes and stone benches with a rich interior adornment, with costly and well made iconostases gather the faithful and the lovers of beauty. At Zagora all the churches are monuments of art, with wood-carved iconostases of great value, with portable Byzantine icons, with precious sacred vessels, improvised museums safeguard the portable objects from every attack, but they also show them to the pilgrim. At Kissos furthermore the iconostasis of St. Marina is enviable. Probably unique. At Milies, the holy Archangels, in the square contain a noteworthy wood carved iconostasis and frescoes of the 18th century. The Precious cross at Anemoutsa of Agria has a painted wood- carved iconostasis. One finds some more remarkable iconostases in St. Demetrius of St. Lawrence, in the Dormition at Makrinitsa, in the Archangel and in Saint Paraskevi at Tsagarada, in the Holy Trinity of Mouresi. Important frescoes exist in St. Demetrius of Neochorion painted by the iconographer Pagoni, in St. Marina af Kissos by the same person, in the Çïly Trinity of Anilion by the same person, in St. Athanasios af Alli Meria by Theophilos, in Ñanaghia in Portaria which was built in 1273 etc.
