Our Monastries
Near Volos there are 4 Nunneries.
1.St.Gerasimus at Makrinitsa (tel.24210-99171)
2.The Holy Archangels at St. George of Nileia (tel.24210-93590)
3.The Panaghia at Saint Vlasius (tel.24210-93736) and
4. Saint Lawrence at the village named after him.
East of Mt Pelion there are 2 other Nunneries :
1. The Precious Forerunner at Syki (tel.24230-33491) and
2. St.Spyridon of Promyrion (tel. 24230-65377).
To the north we have 3 other monasteries:
1. Flamourion, for men (tel.24210-73313)
2. St John the Forerunner of Anatoli Ayias, for women (tel.24940 -81289, email: anatoli4@otenet.gr) and
3. St. Panteleimon in Ayia (tel. 24940-23189).
To the south, on Othris mountain two other monasteries are built:
The lower Panaghia Xenia for women (tel.24220-94265) and
the Upper Panaghia Xenia, for men (tel.24220-22413).
A total of 11 monasteries gathers a multitude of pilgrims who arrive at them relatively easily in order to pray, to be moved and to rest. In our monasteries one finds eager hospitality, tours, as well as opportunities for reflection. It is forbidden for men to stay overnight at convents and for women to stay overnight at men’s monasteries. In general staying overnight depends on the existence of space ,which often does not exist. Át the women’s Monastery of Panaghia Xenia the local miraculous Icon of Panaghia is preserved which is greatly venerated throughout our area. Sacred relics of saints are preserved in all our monasteries.Our monks and nuns live by their work, because they do not have a noteworthy estate. However donors and benefactors always seem to rise up as donors and benefactors who offer either for the buildings, or for the brotherhoods.
